The Best Guide for Female Solo Travel in Panama

Are you contemplating a solo adventure, but concerned about safety?

Look no further than Panama. It is a hidden gem that combines breathtaking landscapes, delicious food, and rich culture.

I have traveled to Panama many times and always had a blast! I’ve been to Panama solo, with friends and my husband.

This blog post will explore why Panama is the perfect destination for those seeking solitude and adventure.

As with any location, you should always remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings.

Before I travel to any country, I check the Department of State Advisory Website and the CDC’s Travelers Health Website for any information or new warnings to be aware of.

Is Panama Safe to Travel Alone?

Panama’s Decreased Crime Rates

Crime rates have steadily decreased in Panama City, the capital and a popular starting point for many travelers.

Tourist areas like Casco Viejo and the Amador Causeway are well-patrolled and safe, ensuring a worry-free experience for solo adventurers.

While in Casco Viejo, I saw armed officers on almost every corner, which was a little alarming initially, but after a while, it gave you a larger sense of security.

The country has made significant strides in ensuring the well-being of its residents and visitors.

Welcoming Panamanian Locals

The Panamanian people’s warmth and friendliness contribute immensely to your safety as a solo traveler. The locals take pride in their hospitality, readily offering assistance and guidance to visitors.

I always felt very welcomed, even when there was a language barrier. Once the locals knew I was not fluent in Spanish, most tried their best to communicate.

Whether navigating the local markets or seeking recommendations for hidden gems, you’ll find the people of Panama welcoming and approachable.

Getting Around in Panama City, Panama

Uber

Uber is the cheapest and safest option I have come across. Especially when leaving the airport, have your Uber app ready as other drivers will bombard you as you walk out.

Some taxi drivers were acting too aggressively for me, and I like to know how much my ride cost beforehand. Uber is the winner!

Walking

The city is very walkable once you are in the location you want to be in. Bring your comfortable shoes, because you will get your steps in while solo in Panama.

Panama’s Robust Infrastructure

Panama has a well-developed infrastructure that enhances the safety and convenience of solo travel.

The public transportation system in Panama City, including buses and the modern Metro, is efficient and reliable.

Navigating the country is a breeze, allowing solo travelers to explore easily.

Cultural Diversity in Panama

Panama’s diverse culture provides extra security for solo travelers. The country’s inclusive atmosphere celebrates diversity, making it a haven for individuals from all walks of life.

Solo travelers often find a sense of belonging as they immerse themselves in the vibrant local culture, from traditional festivals to contemporary art scenes.

Many lodging options have stringent security measures, allowing solo travelers to rest easy after a day of exploration.

I love the plush robes at the W!

While alone in Panama, I stayed at the beautiful W Panama Hotel. The views and customer service were impeccable! Not to mention how safe and comfortable you will feel there.

You do not have to leave this hotel to have a good time. They have it all! Restaurants, music, pool, and more.
